Social Welfare Division Distributes Emergency Food Cards to 500 Families

In response to recent economic challenges facing many households, the Social Welfare Division has distributed emergency food assistance cards valued at $1,000 each to 500 families across Trinidad and Tobago.

The emergency food card programme is part of the Ministry's rapid response initiative to address food insecurity and ensure that vulnerable families have access to nutritious meals during difficult times.

Programme Details

  • $1,000 pre-loaded food cards for immediate use
  • Valid at major supermarkets and grocery stores nationwide
  • Priority distribution to families with young children and elderly members
  • No-cash value to ensure funds are used for food purchases only

Social Welfare Director, Ms. Patricia Williams, stated: "No family should have to choose between paying bills and putting food on the table. These food cards provide immediate relief while families work towards financial stability."

Additional distribution phases are planned for the coming months, with an emphasis on reaching remote and underserved communities.
